Biography
Shinya Yamanaka is a Japanese physician-scientist best known for discovering induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, a breakthrough that allows ordinary adult cells to be reprogrammed into stem-cell-like cells. His work transformed regenerative medicine and earned him the 2012 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, shared with John B. Gurdon.
